Surgical extraction of impacted teeth

An impacted tooth is a tooth that slightly sticks out from the gum or is entirely covered by it and the most part of the tooth is inside the bone. Such situations are a common phenomenon. Mostly young patients suffer from them and report with symptoms of inflammation surrounding a partly impacted wisdom tooth. Food that gets under the musical flap surrounding a partly erupted wisdom tooth causes the inflammation and acute pain. In the summertime the condition is often worsened and swelling or even a submandibular abscess appear.

In order to avoid unpleasant situation, our oral surgeons recommend examining whether or not there is an impacted tooth, which could cause serious inflammations in the future.

Surgical extraction of an impacted tooth is a definitely more complicated procedure than a standard tooth extraction. However, it is an everyday act of our dental surgeons, who can perform it without any problems.

Proper wound dressing is of key importance after a surgical chiselling of a wisdom tooth and during the period of wound healing.

Depending on the situation, our dental surgeon applies:

• A collagen sponge in the alveolus

It keeps the blood clot and stabilizes it.

• Wound sutures

Per indications, we apply delicate absorbable or non-absorbable sutures.

• A-PRF and PRP in the alveolus

Before the procedure blood is drawn. Samples are centrifuged in a special horizontal centrifuge. Thanks to that we obtain the liquid component of blood (PRP) and advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF). After placing these inside the wound and thanks to them containing growth factors, fibroblasts are stimulated to produce collagen. This procedure ensures that a wound heals faster.
